Joseph Geiger, aged 71 years and 3 months, died Friday evening at 9 o’clock at the family residence, 1239 White Street after and extended illness of over a year. Last January he sustained a stroke of apoplexy from which he never fully recovered.

Deceased was born in Waldkirch, Baden, in 1825, coming to this country in 1849. In 1857, he was married to Miss Elizabeth Mitchel, who, with two sons, A. W. and Otto P., survives him. He also leaves one brother, three sisters. Mrs. T. Witting, of this city, Miss Rose Geiger, Germany, and Miss Anna Geiger, Cincinnati.

In 1861, he enlisted in Co. H., First Iowa Infantry, and was in the Battle of Wilson’s Creek. After the war he engaged in the contracting business, which he continued until a few years ago. He was a member of Schiller Lodge of Odd Fellows and of Lookout Post, G. A. R., which will furnish the pallbearers on Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock.

Burial at Linwood.
