Lawrence E. "Larry" Francois, 87, of 2 Julien Dubuque Drive, No. 26, passed away Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012, at home.

A memorial mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 20, at St. Joseph The Worker Catholic Church, with the Rev. Mark Ressler officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, is in charge of arrangements.

Larry was born on March 13, 1924, in Dubuque, son of Sylvester and Clara (Weis) Francois.

After high school, he enlisted in the Army Air Force and served in Europe during World War II. He served in the 9th Air Force Fighter Squadron, which was involved in the D-Day invasion and the Battle of the Bulge.

Larry worked as an engineer for John Deere Dubuque Works and was a member of the Dubuque American Legion Post 6 and the 40/8.

Surviving are a brother, Gregory (Janet) Francois, of Dubuque; nieces, Diana Francois and Sheila Bradley, both of Dubuque; a nephew, Gregg Francois, of Wilson, N.C.; and great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
