JOHN DODD, CIVIL WAR VETERAN, DIES TUESDAY

Funeral services to be conducted Thursday at Holy Ghost Church

John H. Dodd, veteran of the Civil War, died at Mercy Hospital Tuesday morning at 1:45 o'clock. A brief illness preceded his death. Mr. Dodd was born in Kane county, Illinois, April 4, 1838, where he resided until a young man. He then went to Pendelton, Oregon, and entered the drayage business, in which he engaged for many years. He enlisted for service in the Civil war on December 23, 1861, in Company A, 52nd Illinois Infantry Regiment. He was wounded in the battle of Corinth, Mississippi and was honorably discharged on July 12, 1865. Mr. Dodd was a member of A. Lincoln Post No. 4, Department of Washington and the Grand Army of the Republic of Kane county, Illinois. His father served in the War of 1812, Since his retirement from business a few years ago, Mr. Dodd has made his home in Dubuque.

Surviving him are one daughter, Mrs. Mary Massey of Dubuque; four sons, John, Charles, George and Frank Dodd, all of Dubuque; one brother, Jerry Dodd, of Fullerton, Nebraska; and five grandchildren. His wife preceded him in death. Mr. Dodd was a member of Holy Ghost church. The funeral will be held from Haudenshield funeral home to Holy Ghost church at 9 o'clock Thursday morning. He will be given a military burial under the auspices of world war veterans. Interment will be made in Mt. Calvary cemetery.
