HOLY CROSS, Iowa - Rita M. Meyer, 70, of 692 Main St., Holy Cross, died at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque, after a courageous battle with cancer. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Holy Cross Catholic Church, with the Rev. Thomas R. Zinkula officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Farley, where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m.

She was born on Dec. 31, 1932, in Worthington, daughter of Charles and Irene (Kelchen) Feldmann. She married Charles "Chuck" Meyer on Feb. 19, 1952, at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Worthington. Rita and Charles farmed in the Holy Cross area prior to her becoming a school cook at R.H.C.L. grade school/Leo High School, retiring in 1989. She was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Parish.

She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and loved to travel. She was always up for a good game of cards or talking on the phone.

Surviving are her husband of 50 years, Charles Meyer, of Holy Cross; two sons, Don (Linda) Meyer, of Denver, and Verl (Nancy) Meyer, of Eldridge; two daughters, Connie (Ron) Kaiser, of Cuba City, Wis., and Carol (Matt) Kaiser, who are expecting a child, of Dickeyville, Wis.; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Lucille (Al) Vonderhaar, of Luxemburg; four brothers, Carl (Imogene) Feldmann, of Dyersville, Leonard (Caroline) Feldmann, of Cuba City, Wis., Tom (Grace) Feldmann, of Worthington, and Delmar (Mary Lou) Feldmann, of Westfield, Ind.; and five sisters-in-law, Rose Feldmann, of Monticello, Margie Lehmann, of Farley, Mary Feldmann, of Dyersville, Rosella Feldmann, of Worthington, and Delores Kauffmann, of Hazelton.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Marie Hall-Streif; six brothers, Francis, Raymond, Andrew, Leo, Lawrence and Donald Feldmann; two sisters-in-law, Millie (Meyer) Feldmann and Agnes Meyer; and a brother-in-law, Doyle Kauffmann.

A special thanks to Dr. Ridgley, Lisa Sporer and all the nurses at The Finley Hospital, especially the fifth floor Oncology staff. Your love and care was greatly appreciated.
