FARLEY, Iowa -- Gilbert A. Rave Sr., 77, of 810 First Ave. SW, Farley, was called to his home in Heaven at 2:46 a.m. Saturday, March 13, 2010, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 16, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Farley, with the Rev. Dennis Cain officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Farley. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 15, at Reiff Funeral Home, Farley, where there will be a wake service at 5 p.m.

He was born on April 15, 1932, in Otter Creek, son of John and Lena (Sieverding) Rave. He married Shirley Tobin on May 9, 1955, in Worthington. They raised 14 children and welcomed many others with open arms.

Gib farmed, was a plumber, rebuilt cars and had a milk route with his sons.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Parish, Farley.

His greatest joy was spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a gentle, loving man who always found good in others. Gib will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley Rave, of Farley; 13 children, Gilbert Rave Jr., of Manchester, Connie (friend, Wes) Gioimo, of Dyersville, Karen Rave, of Farley, Rick (Kathy) Rave, of Earlville, Sherry (Tom) Streif and Loras Rave, both of Independence, Polly (Keith) Goerdt, of Farley, Peggy (Lee) Jellison, of Manchester, Karla (Steve) Garrett, of Cascade, Heidi (Steve) MacDonald, of Epworth, Roxanne (John) Gartner, of Peosta, Daniel Rave, of Farley, and Jodi (Mike) Delaney, of Cascade; 37 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty (Jake) Mullis; and a sister-in-law, Norma Jean Rave.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Mark Rave, on Sept. 13, 1992, and Gary J. Rave, on Jan. 8, 1997; a granddaughter, Autumn Garrett; three brothers, Loras, Ronald and John Rave; and two sisters, Kathleen Rave and Evelyn Boyer.
