COLESBURG, Iowa -- Lawrence "Larry" O'Meara, 60, of Colesburg, died at 2 p.m. Friday, March 16, 2012, at his home.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Farley, with the Rev. Dennis Cain officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Farley, where military rites will be accorded by the Farley American Legion Post 656 and the New Vienna Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7736. Reiff Funeral Home, Farley, is in charge of arrangements.

He was born on Feb. 15, 1952, in Oelwein, son of Jim Konzen and Lois O'Meara. He received his education at St. Joseph's School in Farley and graduated from Western Dubuque High School in Epworth.

He married Patricia "Patty" Elliott on Oct. 15, 1971, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Farley.

He was an Army veteran, having served from 1971 to 1991. During his career, he served in Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., Fort Hood, Texas, at the Pentagon, as well as six years in Germany and five years in Italy. After retiring from the service, he was employed with the city of Colesburg, prior to that he was employed at Exide, in Manchester, and also worked as a handyman.

He was a member of the Farley American Legion Post 656 and the New Vienna Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7736.

Surviving are his wife, Pat O'Meara, of Colesburg; two children, Lori O'Meara, of Chehalis, Wash., and Matt (Cindy) O'Meara, of Center Point; five grandchildren, Taylor and Kaitlin Hutchinson, Kyrstin Froehle and Jenna and Megan O'Meara; a great-grandchild, Peyton Hutchinson; his mother, Lois O'Meara, of Farley; five siblings, Jerry (Lynn) Konzen, of Farley, Ray (Millie) Konzen, of Albuquerque, N.M., Steve (Matt) Konzen and Judy (Dave) Trenkamp, both of Farley, and Jane (Kenny) Bolsinger, of Colesburg; and a brother- and sisters-in-law, Michael (Vi) Elliott and Mary Beth Elliott, all of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Konzen.
