EPWORTH, Iowa -- James C. Murphy, 19, of Epworth, formerly of Farley, died Saturday, July 18, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque, from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident on U.S. 20 and Bierman Road.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 23, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Farley, with the Rev. Dennis Cain officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Farley. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, July 22, at Reiff Funeral Home, Farley, where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m.

He was born on May 23, 1990, in Dubuque, son of James and Renee (Stussy) Murphy. He attended Western Dubuque High School in Epworth.

He married Sylvia Benke on Feb. 10, 2009, in Cambridge, Ill.

He farmed in the Farley area and also was employed at Nordstrom's in Peosta.

Jim was an avid farm toy collector. He enjoyed playing his PlayStation games, riding his four -wheeler and he loved animals, especially the farm animals.

Surviving are his wife, Sylvia Murphy, of Epworth; parents, James and Renee Murphy, of Farley; siblings, Molly (Tim) Beecher, of Dubuque, Christina Murphy, of Orlando, Fla., Jamie Murphy, of Dubuque, and Blake Murphy, at home; his grandparents, Elaine Stussy, of Tucson, Ariz., and Virgil and Alvina Murphy, of Farley; a great-grandmother, Floy Fasher, of Prairie Du Chein, Wis.; and nieces and nephews, Evan, Adriana, Maya and Madeline.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Richard Stussy, in 1995; and an uncle, Randy Stussy, in 2006.
