FARLEY, Iowa - Herbert F. Link Sr., 85, of 207 Fifth Ave. N.E., Farley, formerly of Dyersville, died at 3:15 p.m. Sunday, March 28, 1999, at Heritage Manor, Dubuque.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Farley, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Farley, where there will be a Farley American Legion Auxiliary service at 4:30 p.m., a wake service at 7 p.m. and the Farley and Dyersville fire departments will meet in a group at 8:15 p.m.

Mr. Link owned and operated the Phillips 66 Station in Dyersville for 37 years. He then worked at Schlemme Oil Co., and Marolf 66 Station in Farley. He then worked at Rainbow Tire, Dubuque. He was a former assistant fire chief for 14 years for the Dyersville Fire Department and former fire chief for the Farley Fire Department, which he served on for 26 years.

He was born on May 14, 1913, in Dyersville, son of Martin and Geneveive (Meis) Link.

He attended school in Seattle and was a 1933 graduate of the former Xavier High School, Dyersville. He was a member of the Iowa Firemen's Association, and St. Joseph's Parish, Farley. He was a past member of the Farley Commercial Club.

Surviving are his children, Janet (Langis) Robichand, of Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, Herb Link Jr., of Dyersville, David (Judy) Link, of Winston Salem, N.C., Cheri (Frank) O'Brien, of Onalaska, Wis., Kevin (Rachael) Link, of Plainfield, Ill., and Sara (Dave) Cordes, of Rockford, Ill.; three stepchildren, Andrea (Bill) Klaren, of Worthington, Karla (Dave) Simon, of Farley, and Sue (Clay) Shaffer, of Platteville, Wis.; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren and three stepgreat- grandchildren; a brother, Walter (Virginia) Link, of Dyersville; and his ex-wife and special friend, Virginette Link, of Farley.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Jeanette.

A Herbert F. Link Sr. Memorial Fund has been established.

Herb's family would like to give special thanks to the nursing staff at Heritage Manor and Shady Rest Care Center and Hospice of Dubuque.
