PEOSTA, Iowa - Donald R. Leibold, 83, of Peosta, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2014, at 3:15 p.m. at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque, surrounded by his family.

Friends and relatives of Donald may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home in Farley, where a wake service will be held at 1:30 p.m., the Farley American Legion Auxiliary will meet at 6:45 p.m. and the Farley American Legion Post 656 will meet at 7 p.m., and a Knights of Columbus Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Services for Donald will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 5, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Farley, with the Rev. Michael Schueller presiding. Burial will be held in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Farley, where military rites will be accorded by Farley American Legion Post 656.

Don was born Nov. 23, 1930, in Farley, son of J. Thomas and Elizabeth (Pins) Leibold. He was a 1948 graduate of the former St. Joseph's High School in Farley.

Don served in the Army from 1953 to 1955 in the 350th Infantry Regiment in the Korean War and in 1955 he also served in Salzburg, Austria. Don had gone on the Honor Flight in 2012.

On Sept. 28, 1957, he was united in marriage to Ruth R. Schueller at St. John the Baptist in Peosta.

Don was employed at Farley and Loetscher Manufacturing Company until taking over the family farm in 1959. Over the years, he was also employed at Scherrman Implement and Farley Soil Service. He also delivered the Telegraph Herald for 25 years prior to his retirement.

He was a member of St. John the Baptist Parish in Peosta, the Farley America Legion Post 656 and the Peosta Knights of Columbus Council 5513.

Don enjoyed a good game of solo and euchre and delivered meals on wheels. Don also served as clerk of Iowa Township for many years. Even after he retired from farming, he retained an active interest in the family farm. He lived to watch the Bears and Cubs on TV.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Leibold, of Peosta; five children, Joe "Diesel" (Cindy) Leibold, of Farley, Sue (Jen) Leibold, of Dubuque, Mark (Tina) Leibold of Peosta, Duane Leibold, of Davenport, and Deb (Doug) Althaus, of Durango; nine grandchildren, Charlie (Tina) Elsinger, Andrew (Elizabeth) Elsinger, Michael Elsinger, Nicholas Elsinger (and friend, Carrie Schueller), Jeff, Rachael and Denver Leibold, Tim, Nathan, and Andy Althaus; three great-grandchildren, Chloie Merkes, Thomas and Charlee Elsinger; two brothers, Loras Leibold, of Farley, and Melvin Leibold, of Dubuque; brothers and sisters-in-laws, Virginia Banwarth, James Schueller, Francis (Marian) Koetz, Francis (Darlene) McDonald, Jack (Betty) Schueller and Shirley Schueller.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Rosemary White; four brothers, Emil, Leo, Raymond and Charles Leibold; a brother-in-law, Celester White; four sisters-in-law, Mary Leibold, Virginia Leibold, Irene Leibold and Betty Leibold; two brothers-in-laws, Wayne "Bub" Schueller and Harold Banwarth; and a niece, Janet Melchert.
