Donald Hoppmann Jr.

Donald “Donnie” Hoppmann Jr., 58, of Dubuque, passed away Saturday, February 14, 2015 at home.

Funeral services will be at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at Hoffmann Schneider Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 1640 Main St, Dubuque, where friends may greet the family from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Donnie was born March 6, 1956 in Dubuque, the son of Donald Sr. and Virginia (Swift) Hoppmann. He graduated from Dubuque Senior High School with the class of 1974. He married Janet Hayes on August 18, 1978 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Dubuque.

Donnie was employed at the Dubuque Packing Company, FDL, Farmland, and most recently at Rite-Hite. He was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed pheasant hunting. His hunting dogs were special to him, and he also enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, horseshoes, and playing billiards with his family. Donnie was a humble man of few words. He was caring, friendly, and a true gentleman.

Donnie is survived by his wife, Jan, of Dubuque; two children, Allison (Larry) Johnston of Bixby, OK, and Andrew (fiancée Jessica Wagoner) Hoppmann of Clarinda, IA; one grandson, Cohen Johnston; his father, Donald Hoppmann Sr. of Dubuque; three brothers, Bob (Carroll) Hoppmann of AZ, Mark Hoppmann Sr., and Mike (Debbie) Hoppmann, both of Dubuque; four sisters, Mary (Bob) Schwartz of Apple River, IL, Patti DiGiacomo of Dubuque, Barb (Mike) Snyder of Overland Park, KS, and Linda Trimble of AZ; his brother in law, Mike (Peggy) Hayes of Bellevue, IA; four sisters in law, Carol (Bill) Mellgren of MN, Sue Beaver of CA, Linda Bakey of Dubuque, and Phyllis (Bill) Miehe of SC; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother; three brothers in law, George DiGiacomo, Mark Hayes, and Larry Beaver; and his parents in law, John and Joan Hayes.

The family would like to thank their friends and family for the continued love and support.

Memorials may be made to the Donald Hoppmann Jr. Memorial Fund.
