January 21, 1933 - January 22, 2015

Dubuque, Iowa

Wilfrid J. "Willie" Meyer, age 82, of Dubuque, IA, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, at 1:40 p.m. on Thursday, January 22, 2015, at UnityPoint Health Finley Hospital. To honor Wilfrid's life, funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 26, 2015, at the Church of the Nativity, 1225 Alta Vista, with Rev. Msgr. James L. Miller and Rev. Msgr. Wayne A. Ressler officiating. To celebrate Wilfrid's life, family and friends may visit from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 25, 2015, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where there will be a parish scripture wake service held at 4:30 p.m. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, where full military honors will be accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps League.

Willie was born on January 21, 1933, in Dubuque, IA, son of Herman and Mary (Burds) Meyer.

Willie proudly served with the U.S. Army in Korea. He married Jean (Mueller) on April 25, 1953, at St. Raphael's Cathedral.

Willie owned and operated Meyer Bros. Painting for over 50 years. He was an avid golfer. One of the highlights of his golf career was in 1981 when he won the Dubuque City County Golf Championship in a sudden death playoff against his son, John. Willie loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.

Willie was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Agatha Zumhof; a brother, Donald J. Meyer and a sister-in-law, Ann Meyer.

A Wilfrid J. "Willie" Meyer memorial fund has been established.
