Ione La Mantia Bernardy, age 87, of Council Bluffs and a former resident of Waterloo, Iowa, died Aug. 28, 2005.

Ione was born January 22, 1918 to Joseph and Rose Schwendinger Kehoe in Farley, Iowa.

She graduated from St. Mary's School in Waterloo, and St. Francis School of Nursing in Freeport, Ill. She was a Registered nurse at Mercy Hospital from 1943-1967, Instructor at Iowa Western Community College for 10 years in LPN program, a member of Queen of Apostles Church, Altrussa, Artists Association, Red Cross volunteer, advocate for Pro Life, Serra Club member, Catholic Daughters of America, Legion of Mary Past president of both, Eucharistic Minister at church. Mentioned in Who's Who of American Women 1977-1978, Avid bowler and golfer, named all State. Forward in basketball at St. Mary's, also played for Loras College, received the Knight of Columbus award for her Pro Life activities.

Ione was preceded in death by parents, husband, Al Berhardy and 7 siblings. Ione is survived by sons, Don La Mantia, of Omaha, Frank La Mantia Jr., and companion, Janice Schaffer of Aurora, Colo., and Jim La Mantia and wife, Debbie of Elizabeth, Colo.; daughters, Jan Hoeman and husband, Craig of Des Moines, Iowa, Diann O'Bryan and husband, Jim of Overland Park, Kan., Mary Beth Litofsky and husband, Scott of Columbia, Mo.; 18 grandchildren; sister, Sr. Donalda Kehoe O.S.F., of Dubuque, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Marilyn La Mantia of Omaha, Neb.

Rosary recitation Tuesday at 6:30pm with visitation to follow until 8:30pm at Queen of Apostles Church. Mass of
Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 10am at Queen of Apostles Church, Fr. Dan Kirby Pastor, Celebrant.

Body will be donated to Creighton Medical School. Memorials may be offered to Columban Fathers, Bellevue, Neb.
