DYERSVILLE, Iowa - Leon R. Kramer, 78, of 209 4th St. SE, Farley, died at 3:20 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010, at his home after a sudden illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Farley, with the Rev. John P. Ptacek officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Farley. Friends may call from 2 to

8 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Farley, where there will be a Farley American Legion Service at 7 p.m. and a wake service at 8 p.m.

He was born on Feb. 4, 1932, in Earlville, son of Walter A. and Celeste (Burkle) Kramer. He received his education in St. Paul's School in Worthington. He also attended Bayless Business College in Dubuque.

He married Rosalyn McBride on Jan. 25. 1958, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Farley.

Leon was an Army veteran, having served in the Korean War.

He farmed in the rural Worthington area and also was employed at the Ertl Co. in Dyersville until his retirement in 1994.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Parish in Farley and its Altar and Rosary Society, a member of the Farley American Legion Post 656, in which he was very active in running the annual blood drives.

Leon enjoyed gardening and watching baseball. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Rosalyn Kramer, of Farley; seven children, Julie (Kevin) Menge, of Cascade, Jayne (Jeff) Esser, of Silverthorne, Colo., Thomas (Beth) Kramer, of Scottsdale, Ariz., Stephen (Carie) Kramer, of Altoona, Wayne (Gayle) Kramer and Daniel Kramer, both of Farley, and James (Jill) Kramer, of Ankeny; 12 grandchildren; Marty Menge, Brian Menge, Jen Menge, Brad Esser, Ashley (Bob) Kemler, Brett Esser, Zoe Kramer, Joseph Kramer, Travis Sahm, Jaclyn Sahm, Nathan Kramer and Maisa Kramer; and five siblings, Lois (Frank) Konzen, of Farley, Paul (Pat) Kramer, of Dubuque, Vera (Alan) Steger, Walter "Hub" (Doris) Kramer and Gene (Dorothy) Kramer, all of Worthington.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Zachary Kramer; and a brother, Earl Kramer.

A Leon R. Kramer Memorial Fund has been established.
