Doris Caroline Josephine Kehrli, 91, of Independence, passed away at Rock Ridge Residential Care Center, Shellsburg, on Sunday, July 22, 2007, at 8:54 a.m. from natural causes.

Friends and relatives of Doris may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today, July 24, at the Reiff Funeral Home in Farley, where a rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m. Friends may also call prior to the services from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Services for Doris C. Kehrli will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Farley, with the Rev. Al Vorwald officiating. Concelebrating will be the Rev. Dennis Cain. Burial will be held in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Farley.

Doris, the daughter of William Eligius Schwendinger and Mary Elmeda (Kofmehl) Schwendinger was born Sept. 22, 1915, in Farley. She married Thomas Earl Kehrli of Ryan, June 4, 1940, who preceded her in death on April 30, 1976. She was a member of St. John Parish in Independence.

She is survived by three daughters and five sons, Elmeda (Harry) Graves of Coralville, Marge (Wayne) Wetzel of Vinton, Audrey (Paul) Trasak of Cedar Rapids, Robert Kehrli of Earlville, William Kehrli of Decorah, Donald Kehrli of Vinton, David Kehrli of Manchester and Michael (Michelle) Kehrli of Mount Auburn; 16 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; and Doris was awaiting the birth of two more great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Irma J. Schwendinger of Earlville; and a sister-in-law, Rita Schwendinger of Dubuque.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Irene; and three brothers, Ray, Francis and Gerald Schwendinger.

The Doris C. Kehrli memorial fund has been established in her memory.
