FARLEY, Iowa - Andrew L. Hollenback, 79, of 208 Third St. SW, Farley, died at 5:35 a.m. Friday, March 9, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

At the request of our loving husband, father, grandfather and great- grandfather, there will be no public visitation or services. A private burial will be held at a later date. The Reiff Funeral Home, Farley, is in charge of arrangements.

He was born on July 13, 1927, in Dubuque, son of Robert "Speedy" and Mary (Meader) Hollenback. He married June Mueller on Nov. 25, 1946, in Maquoketa.

He received his education at St. Columbkille's School in Dubuque.

Andy worked as a mechanic for Lincoln Mercury in Dubuque, as a brakeman for the Milwaukee Railroad, and he retired from the Western Dubuque School District in 1990, where he worked as a mechanic for 25 years.

Andy was an avid gardener and outdoorsman. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Andy was a Navy veteran, having served in World War II and a 60 year member of the Farley American Legion Post 656.

Surviving are his wife, June, of Farley; 11 children, Andy Jr. (Bonnie Mausser), of Epworth, Bill (Mary Beth), Sandy (Rick) Gotto, Peggy Kruse and Joe Hollenback, all of Farley, Rick (JoAnn), of Denver, David John, of Davenport, Mark (Tammi), of New Vienna, Chris (Randy) Sindt, of Dubuque, and Susie (Mike) Maahs and Ann Hollenback, both of Dyersville; 25 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and four brothers and sisters, June (Art) Beier, of Brookfield, Wis., Jack (Pat) Hollenback, of Mooresville, N.C., Ava Ferlman, of Peoria, Ill., and Dick (Donna) Hollenback, of Fort Meyers, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Mary; two brothers, Bob, and Andy's twin, Billy Boy; a sister, Virginia Herbst; a son-in-law, James (Hooker) Kruse; and a grandson, Jacob Hollenback.

Andy and his family want to thank all of his friends and relatives that visited him and sent cards during his illness. He truly appreciated their kindness and compassion.

The family also would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to the skilled and caring staff at Mercy Hospital/Home Care.
