Joseph A. Dolanc, 89, of 26525 Dolanc Lane, Farley, died at 5:58 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Farley, with the Rev. Michael Schueller officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Farley. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Farley, where there will be a wake service at 2:30 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.

Joe was born July 12, 1923, in Farley, son of John and Elizabeth (Duschner) Dolanc. He received his education in the Farley rural country schools.

On Sept. 11, 1956, he was united in marriage to Darlene M. Bergfeld at St. Joseph's Prairie in rural Dubuque; she preceded him in death on Feb. 17, 1985.

He farmed in the Farley area all his life. Joe was a member of St. Joseph's Parish in Farley, a member of the Dubuque County Farm Bureau and the Farley Knights of Columbus-Council 2001.

Surviving are two daughters, Diane (Larry) Dietz, of Dubuque, and Debbie Dolanc, of Iowa City; seven grandchildren, Clint (Kelly) Dietz, Brooke and Clayton Dietz, Michael (Sami) Ahlers, Melanie and Joey Ahlers and Alexis Dolanc; seven great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Carter, Kayden and Owen Dietz, J.J., Chaela and Alex Ahlers; special cousins that Joe was raised with, Sr. Benjamin Duschner, of Dubuque, Dorann and Jr. Simon and Gene and Connie Duschner, all of Farley; sisters and brothers-in-law, Theresa Gansemer, of Rickardsville, George (Joanne) Bergfeld, of Bernard, Julie (Elmer) Schumann, of Dyersville, Danny (Diane) Bergfeld, of Bernard, and Shirley Bergfeld, of Dubuque.

He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Dolanc on June 28, 1978; two brothers, John (Ellen) Dolanc and Ben (Dorothy) Duschner; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ed (Juanita) Bergfeld, John Bergfeld, Gladys (Jack) Kress and Clem Gansemer.
