Walter W. Davidshofer, 84, of Dyersville, formerly of Worthington, died 7:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 26, 2014,

at Mercy Hospital in Dyersville. Friends and relatives of Walter may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 28, at

Reiff Funeral Home in Dyersville, where a wake service will be at 2 p.m. Services for Walter will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 29, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Worthington, with the Rev. Dennis Quint presiding. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Farley.

Walter was born Sept. 1, 1930, in Dyersville, Iowa, son of Leo and Hycinthia (Kramer) Davidshofer. He received his education from the Farley Country Schools and St. Joseph's High School. On April 21, 1953, he was united in marriage to Frances Benn at the Basilica of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Dyersville. Walter farmed in the Worthington area until his retirement.

Walter loved telling stories and jokes. He especially enjoyed driving around and reminiscing about days gone by. Walter was a member of St. Paul's Parish.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Davidshofer of Dyersville; eight children, Ann (Larry) Lee of Manchester, Mary (Luke) Oberbreckling of Mechanicsville, Karen (Doug) Loney of Epworth, Ken (Renee) Davidshofer of Earlville, Bill (Ann) Davidshofer of Lisbon, Peter (Lori) Davidshofer of Dyersville, Christy (Scott) Deutmeyer of Worthington and Sandy (Scotty) Krogman of Dyersville; 24 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Leo (Joyce) Davidshofer of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Fred and James C. "Wimp" Davidshofer; one sister-in-law, Clara "Toots" Davidshofer; and one son-in-law, Edward J. Hoefer.
