FARLEY, Iowa - Clarence J. "Jim" Ahmann, 76, of 305 3rd Ave S.W., Farley, died at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010, at home.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Farley, with the Rev. Dennis Cain officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Farley, where military rites will be accorded by Farley American Legion Post 656. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10, at Reiff Funeral Home, Farley, where the wake service will be at

4 p.m., the Farley Fire Department will meet at 7 p.m., and Knights of Columbus rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.

He was born on Nov. 14, 1934, in Farley, son of Clemence J. and Marie (Soppe) Ahmann. He received his education at a school in Oneida, Iowa, and at St. Joseph's School, Farley.

Clarence married Shirley Neyen on June 16, 1959, at St. Clement's Catholic Church, Bankston.

He was an Army Veteran, serving from 1955 to 1957.

He was employed at the former Dubuque Packing Co., for 30 years until his retirement in 1977.

Clarence was a member of St. Joseph's Parish, the Farley Knights of Columbus Council 2001, the Experimental Amateur Aircraft Association, and was a former volunteer for the Farley Volunteer Fire Department.

Clarence enjoyed fishing, hunting, stock car races, model airplanes and trains. He was especially proud of his roses, and appreciated the many compliments he received on them over the years.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley Ahmann, of Farley; six children, Dennis "George" Ahmann, of Farley, David Ahmann, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Dianne (Fritz-Robert) Thimote, of Dubuque, Daniel "Fritz" (Jennifer) Ahmann, of Farley, Duane "Nutsy" (Crystal) Ahmann, of Epworth, Donald "Honker" Ahmann (and special friend, Lyndsay Johnson) of Farley; five grandchildren, Jenna Coleman, Hailey and Derek Ahmann, Megan Ahmann and Ryan Robert Thimote; a brother, Eugene Ahmann, of Farley; three sisters, Ann (Reece) Shaw, of Dubuque, Nancy (Dallas) Dolphin, of Farley, Kathleen Boge, of Manchester, and Mary Jane Ahmann, of Dubuque; six brothers and sisters-in-law, Duanne (Ambrose) Pins, of Epworth, Albert Neyen, of Bankston, Donna Mae Neyen-Shea, of Dubuque, Jean Ann Neyen, Jerry Drees and Eldon Koerperich, all of Farley; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; twins, John and Joan Ahmann in infancy; his father and mother-in-law, Albert P. and Philomena Neyen; brothers and sisters-in-law, Helen T. Ahmann, Kenneth Boge, Joseph Link, Bill Neyen, Gary Neyen, Bob Neyen, Carol Neyen and Beverly Drees.
