WORTHINGTON, Iowa - John S. Greiner, 53, of Worthington, died after a brief illness Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Worthington, with burial in St. Paul's Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where the Worthington Fire Department will meet at 6 p.m., a Farley American Legion service will be held at 7 p.m., and a parish scripture service at 7:30 p.m.

Mr. Greiner was the co-owner of Greiner Construction.

He was born on May 27, 1947, in Worthington, son of Clem and Mildred (Lehman) Greiner. He married Marie Faber on Sept. 17, 1966, in Sand Springs.

He was a member of the Worthington Fire Department for 23 years, the Farley American Legion and served on the Worthington Veteran Memorial Committee.

Surviving are his wife, Marie; two sons, Tim (Ruby) Greiner, of St. Peters, Mo., and Terry (Michelle) Greiner, of Ankeny; a daughter, Tammy (Tom) Marbach, of Worthington; two grandchildren, Nicholas Greiner and Brock Marbach; four sisters, Kay (Eldon) Funke, of Monticello, Helen "Blondi" (Bob) Lindauer, of Cascade, Nancy (Ron) Kavars, of Dubuque, and Sally (Bob) Farmer, of Hopkinton.

He was preceded in death by his mother in 1987; and his father in 1992.
