WORTHINGTON, Iowa -- Donald L. Burlage, 85, of 7658 Fortman Road, Worthington, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010, at his home.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Worthington, with the Rev. Phillip Kruse officiating. Concelebrating will be the Rev. Douglas Loecke and the Rev. Joseph McDermott, SVD. Assisting Deacon will be Frederick Pins. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Worthington. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a prayer service at 4 p.m.

He was born on Aug. 4, 1924, on the family farm in Dodge Township in rural Worthington, son of Theodore and Susan Sophia (May) Burlage. He received his education in the country schools in Dodge Township and St. Francis Xavier School.

He married Margaret "Mickey" Kennedy on Oct. 15, 1955, by the Rev. William A. Mullen at St. Clement's Catholic Church in Bankston.

He farmed on the "Burlage Century Farm" in Dodge Township all his life.

He was a longtime member of the Dubuque County, Iowa (ICA) and National Cattlemen's Association. He was inducted into the Dubuque County Cattlemen Hall of fame in 1999. He also was a member of the Dubuque County Farm Bureau, St. Paul's Parish, Worthington, its altar and rosary society and served on its Parish Council for many years. He also served on the Beckman High School Booster Club Board.

He was an avid fan of Beckman High School sports. Don believed in supporting local organizations.

He enjoyed playing cards with friends and neighbors, bowling, Monday trips to the sale barn, coffee at the local feed store and watching his granddaughters' activities.

The three loves of his life were his family, feeding cattle and the St. Louis Cardinals.

Surviving are his wife, Mickey Burlage, of Worthington; a daughter, Rebecca "Becky" (David) Lansing, of Worthington; and three granddaughters, Nicole, Callie and Jenna Lansing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Lester, Lawrence (Frances) and Elmer (Dorothy); five sisters, Ida (Laverne) Engler, Lucille (Emil) White, Irene (Andy) Hostert and Florence and Mildred Burlage.
