WORTHINGTON, Iowa - Marcella M. Soppe, 95, of Waterloo, formerly of Worthington, died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, at Manor Care, Waterloo, after a long illness.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Worthington, with the Rev. Mark McGovern officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Monday at the church. Inquiries may be directed to Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville.

She was born on Aug. 20, 1907, in Worthington, daughter of Theodore and Susan (Besler) Lahr.

She married Alphonse Soppe on Jan. 31, 1927, in Worthington. Together they farmed near Worthington, until moving to Gilbertville in 1934.

Surviving are a son, Gerald H. (Kathleen) Soppe, of Waterloo; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, a half brother, Jack Marbach; and two half sisters, Ann Jayco and Ceile Sedwick.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alphonse, in 1990; twin daughters, Mary Ann and Mary Lou; two brothers, Raymond and Bill Lahr; and a half brother, Val Marbach.

Memorials may be given to the Multiple Sclerosis Society and St. Paul's Catholic Church.
