HOPKINTON, Iowa - Janet A. Mescher, 60, of rural Hopkinton, died after a brief illness Thursday, July 31, 1997, at Mercy Health Center St. Joseph's Unit, Dubuque.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Luke's Catholic Church, Hopkinton, with burial in St. Paul's Cemetery, Worthington. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a parish scripture service at 7:30 p.m.

She was born on Jan. 29, 1937, in rural Hopkinton, Delaware County, daughter of William C. and Rose (Whiting) Werner. She married David Mescher on Jan. 28, 1961, in Sand Springs.

She was a homemaker and a member of St. Luke's Rosary Society.

Surviving are her husband, David, of Hopkinton; two sons, Michael (Lorraine), of Lynn, Mass., and Andrew (Tara), of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Lori (Dave) Nightingale, of Anamosa; two grandchildren, Christopher and Alyssa Nightingale; two sisters, Jacqueline (Arnold) Merkes, of Manchester, and Susie (Ron) McDermott, of Mount Vernon; five brothers, Richard (and his fiancee, LaVerne Cross), of Richland, Mo., Pat (Marilyn), of rural Hopkinton, Robert (Cheryl), of Dubuque, Ed (Sue), of Epworth, and Steve (Linda), of Dyersville; and a sister-in-law, Beth Whisler, of Dubuque.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, Christopher; her parents; and a brother, Dan.
