ZWINGLE, Iowa - Kathleen C. "Kay" Jaeger, 59, of 18933 283rd St., Zwingle, died at 2:45 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque, following a long, courageous battle with cancer.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Assumption Church, Sylvia Switch, rural Zwingle. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Worthington. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, Dubuque, where there will be a wake service at 7:30 p.m.

Mrs. Jaeger worked at the Andrew Jackson Care Facility for 24 years as an assistant administrator, until her retirement in 2002.

She was born on May 17, 1943, in Dyersville, daughter of Soloman and Viola (Stoeckle) Thoeni. She married Donald J. Jaeger Sr. on April 20, 1977.

She enjoyed doing craft work.

Surviving are her husband, Donald; two daughters, Julie (Jerry) Nachtman, of St. Donatus, and Janie Berendes, of Bellevue; two sons, Scott (Jeni) McAtee and John McAtee, both of Dubuque; 12 stepchildren, Don Jr., Ken, Randy, Dick, Mike, Pat, Scott, Jeff and Marty Jaeger, and Sharlene McAtee, Debbie Gelacia and Dixie Boiling; 10 grandchildren; many step grandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; two brothers, Donald (Linda) Thoeni and David (Sandy) Thoeni, both of Minnesota; four sisters, Betty Hunt, of Dubuque, Shirley Taylor, of Oklahoma, Carol (Greg) Brimeyer, of Dyersville, and Susan (George) Tittle, of Bellevue.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Kenneth, in infancy; and a son-in-law, William "Bill" Berendes, in 1991.

The family would like to thank Dr. Lawrence Kukla and the staff who cared for Kay during her illness for their care and kindness they gave to Kay and her family.
