WORTHINGTON, Iowa - Eugene J. "Fat" Jaeger, 85, of Worthington, died Tuesday, March 16, 1999, at Ennoble Manor Care Center, Dubuque.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Catholic Church, with burial in St. Paul Cemetery, both in Worthington. Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. today at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a parish scripture service at 4 p.m.

Mr. Jaeger was self employed as a plumber from 1926 until he retired in 1978.

He was born on Feb. 22, 1914, in Worthington, son of Charles and Susan (Sauser) Jaeger. He married Catherine LaPage on Aug. 16, 1933, in Worthington; she died in 1997.

He was an Army veteran during World War II and received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal, three battle stars, and two overseas chevrons in the European theater. He was a former member of the Cascade Legion.

Surviving are three sons, Eugene C. Jaeger, of Dubuque, Ronald (Mary), of Key West, and Edward (Margaret), of Monticello; a daughter-in-law, Eileen Jaeger, of Dubuque; 15 grandchildren, Donald, Ronald, Randy, Rick, Douglas, Daniel, Dennis, Katherine, Kristine and Angel Jaeger, Vickie Middendorf, Robert, Randy and Tammy Harms, and Terry Compagnone; 20 great-grandchildren; a brother, Clarence (Chop), of Worthington; a sister, Delores (Charles) Steger, of Coarsegold, Calif.; and a sister-in-law, Peg LaPage, of Farley.

He also was preceded in death by a son, Charles, in 1984; two sisters, Bernadine Steger and Margaret Kurt; a grandson, Steven Michael Jaeger; and a great-granddaughter, Lindsey Jo Jaeger.
