Gertrude J. (Ott) Frommelt, 104, of Dubuque, passed away Saturday, October 25, 2014 at Stonehill Care Center.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 30, 2014, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may greet the family from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 29th at Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1640 Main Street.
Gertrude was born October 10, 1910 in Eau Claire, Wisc., daughter of Joseph ‘J.J.’ and Margaret (Meuser) Ott. She married Leo F. Frommelt on June 30, 1938, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Dubuque. From this loving union were born 2 sons and 5 daughters. Leo preceded her in death on June 8, 1995.
Gertrude graduated from the former Immaculate Conception Academy, in Dubuque, class of 1929.
Gertrude made each child feel important and special. She was devoted to her family and her faith. She was gracious and genteel and enjoyed all the simple things in life and thus was able to enjoy life to its fullest. She will live on in the hearts of those who loved her and were blessed and privileged to have been a part of her life’s journey.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Mary Ann (James) Pihart, Alois (Maureen) Frommelt, Paul (Donna) Frommelt, all of Dubuque, Adele (Robert) Nicks, of Peosta, Rita (Dr. Robert) Woodham of Bettendorf, IA, Theresa (Roger) Herting of Kansas City, KS, Christin (Dr. Regina Boarman) Frommelt of Dubuque; 23 grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren, and one on the way; 2 step great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Rosemary (Robert) Meyer and many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents; a grandchild, Lisa Frommelt; 3 brothers and sisters-in-law, Arthur (Gertrude) Ott, Joe (Virginia) Ott and William Ott, in infancy; 3 sisters and brothers-in-law, Adele (Carl) Schlueter, Helen (Leo) Schlueter, and Geraldine (Andrew) Andresen; 5 sisters-in-law and 6 brothers-in-law, Marie (Walter) Lewis, Elizabeth (Merlin) Vanderah, Martha (Ralph) Weitz, Agnes (Donald) Piersch, Agatha (Charles) Leute and Robert Meyer.
The family gives special thanks for the loving care of Stonehill Care Center and Drs. Khatib and Steffens and also to Hospice of Dubuque.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Hospice of Dubuque, and Stonehill Care Center.
