Joӓn Genevieve Hynish Dyer 91, of Dubuque passed away peacefully on October 26, 2014 at Finley Hospital with her family by her side.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. The Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 Kennedy Road is assisting the family.

Joӓn was born in Dubuque on April 17, 1923, the daughter of Paul G. and Louise A. (Fischer) Hynish.

She grew up in Pocahontas, Iowa. After her graduation in 1941, she moved to Washington D.C. to work for the government. She loved her job and living in Washington D.C.

After her return from Washington she met the love of her life, Navy Pilot Robert J. Dyer on Valentine’s Day. He proposed to her on that very day and they were married four months later on June 19th, 1946 and lived a true love story for 56 years.

Joӓn loved her family, her faith, her friends, music, dancing, cooking, traveling, entertaining, and playing bridge weekly.

She took great pride in her job at Wahlert High School’s with Monsignor Clarence Raker upon its inception.

She was a member of The Theresian’s Mothers Club, St. Columbkille’s Church, and Dubuque Golf and Country Club.

Joӓn is survived by her beloved son Robert Paul (Mary Patricia) Dyer of Clive, Iowa; her cherished granddaughters Lauren Elizabeth Dyer (Justin Black) of California; and Ashley Anne Dyer of Chicago; two great grandchildren, Justin James and Jayden Anne Black of California. Also, her brother William Paul (Laura) Hynish of Clayton, Georgia. Nieces and nephews include: Tom (Julie) Davies, of Cedar Falls, Iowa; David Davies, of Davis California; Diane Chevalier, of Dubuque, Iowa; and Susan (Tom) Ellis, of Tower Hill, Illinois. Great nieces and nephews include: Deborah Hart, Danielle Lessie, Jon-Paul Chevalier, Tom Davies, Jr., Allison Davies, Katie Davies, Alexander Davies, Christopher Davies, Matthew Davies, Regina Williams, Cheryl Williams, and Claire Williams.

Joӓn was proceeded in death by her loving husband, Robert J. Dyer; parents Paul G. and Louise A. Hynish; father and mother in-law James and Clara Dyer; brother and sister in-law George and Louise Williams; and seven brothers and sisters including: Ruth, Harold, Helen, Mary, Catherine, Angela, and Paul.

Memorials may be made to The Arthritis Foundation.
The family wishes to thank very special friends Laura Storck and Linda Field; the caring staff at Finley Hospital; Stonehill; Dr. Kirkendall and Kate.
