JANANN L. Winter CONNOLLY
Janann L. “Nan” Connolly age 65 of East Dubuque, IL and formerly of Dubuque died Friday August 22, 2014 at Unity Point Finley Hospital with Patrick by her side.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 Wednesday August 27, 2014 at Saint Raphael’s Cathedral with Msgr. Thomas Toale officiating. Friends may call from 3 to 8 Tuesday August 26, 2014 at the Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory 2595 Rockdale Road where there will be a parish wake service at 3 pm.
Nan was born on November 28, 1948 in Dubuque the daughter of Edward and Ethel (Schmidt) Winter. She married Patrick Connolly on November 28, 1970 at Saint Raphael’s Cathedral and together they shared 43 wonderful years.
Nan graduated from the Visitation Academy in 1966. Nan had a great love for children and did in home day care for many years. She also worked for the former Dubuque Packing Co. and Advance Data Com and lastly worked at Prodigy Child Development.
Nan loved to read and belonged to several book clubs. She also enjoyed playing euchre and was a sports fan of the Iowa Hawkeye’s the Cubs and the Packers.
Nan was a very generous person who had an uncanny ability to, as she put it, “collect friends”. She dearly loved her grandchildren, her animals and traveling on her many excursions with Patrick and her family.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband and the love of her life Patrick, her two children Kim (Steve Hedrick) Connolly and Sara (Shawn) Schmitz, both of Dubuque, her two grandchildren Dakota Patrick Connolly and Gracie Joy Schmitz, a sister in law Martha Winter of Walker, MN, brothers in law Jim (Joan) Connolly and John (Gloria) Connolly and her life long friends the Martensen family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Gerald and Harold Winter and a sister Eunice “Kathy” Schultz.
