Thomas A. Hamil
Death Claims an Honorable and Worthy Citizen
It was with deep regret that on last Saturday morning the people of this community learned of the death of Thomas A. Hamil, who passed away at 5 o’clock that morning at his residence a mile east of Cascade. Mr. Hamil had been ill since last June when he suffered a slight attack of illness which gradually developed in severity until he was prostrated by the malady. He grew better a month or more ago and was able to be about some, but the improvement was only temporary. When the recent relapse which ended his life came, his constitution was too weak and run down to withstand the onslaught and the final dissolution was the result.
Mr. Hamil was a young man comparatively speaking and his removal from the scenes of life’s activity is a most regrettable occurrence, not only for the wife and children, but for the community, as he was a man highly regarded by his neighbors and friends; an indulgent father and faithful husband, and a true and loyal friend.
Mr. Hamil was a native of Cascade, having been born here August 24, 1855, and was a son of the late A.P. and Mary J. Hamil. March 10, 1880, he was united in marriage to Miss Anenath Hamilton. Four children were born to them; James S., Charles, Gerald and Bessie, who with his devoted wife, survive him. Mr. Hamil was a member of the Baptist church which society he joined 26 years ago under the pastorate of the late Rev. James Hill and was always a consistent member. Deceased is also survived by his brother, A.P. Hamil of Cascade township, and his sister, Mrs. Jeanie Doxsee of Algona, Iowa.
The funeral took place Monday afternoon from the residence to the Baptist church and was largely attended. Rev. J.W. Beatty officiated, assisted by Revs. Garrison, Stiening and Tanner.
