CALEDONIA, Minn.— Elsie Mae Palen, 95, of Caledonia died Thursday, June 7, 2012 at her home

She was born Aug. 14, 1916, in Caledonia to Henry and Josephine (Longueville) Wisland. She married Victor Palen on Nov. 25, 1943, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Caledonia. He preceded her in death on Feb. 13, 2003.

Elsie worked at the Houston County Courthouse as an abstractor and was later self employed as a registered abstractor. She was well known for her beautiful flower gardens.

She is survived by five children, John Palen of Caledonia, Vicki Palen of Milladore, Wis., Geraldine (Peter Thompson) Schultz of Glendale, Calif., David Palen of Elroy, Wis., Frances Palen of Geneva, Switzerland; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a daughter, Kristin McFadden; a brother, Eugene Wisland; and a sister, Marian Mitchell.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Caledonia. Father Gregory Leif will officiate and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Caledonia. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church before the service.

The family would like to thank Fransican Skemp Mayo Hospice for their care and support and thanks to Elsie’s caretakers, Terry Palen and Vilas Clausen, for their loving care. McCormick Funeral Home is assisting the family and online condolences may be given at mccormickfuneralhome.net.
