Anna M. Sheetz

Anna Marie "Babe" Sheetz, 86, of LaCrosse, Wis., formerly of Dubuque, died Tuesday, June 28, 2005, at Gunderson Lutheran Medical Center, LaCrosse.

She was born on Sept. 20, 1918, in Dubuque, daughter of Maurice and Alvina (Reiff) Hill. She graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1936.

She worked in the beauty salon at Roshek's and then she worked at Stampfer's.

In 1940, Babe married Lin William Sheetz, who was the love of her life for 57 years, at Nativity Catholic Church, Dubuque; he preceded her in death in December 1997. After their marriage, Babe and Lin made their home in LaCrosse, where they raised their four children.

Surviving are 3 daughters, Linda (John) Spiegel, of Pennsylvania, Janet (Gordon) Miller, of Onalaska, Wis., and Patricia (Ralph) Dayton, of LaCrosse; a sister, Bernice (Leo) Fitzpatrick, of Dubuque; 3 grandchildren, Carolin Spiegel, Juli (Scott) Wood and Mike Miller; a great-granddaughter, Claire Wood; a cousin, Dolores, of Maquoketa, Iowa; a niece, Nancy (James) Lindsay; and a nephew, Thomas Fitzpatrick.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Thomas Sheetz; and 2 brothers, Thomas and Richard Hill.
