EAST DUBUQUE, Ill. -- Luella (Klaas Ahmann) Short, 81, of 151 Shawnee Trail, East Dubuque, died at 10:39 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19, 2007, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque, from injuries received in a motor vehicle accident on the Julien-Dubuque Bridge Monday afternoon.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Center Grove United Methodist Church, Dubuque, with Pastor Jennifer Myer officiating. Burial will be in Center Grove Cemetery. Friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Friday at the church. The Miller Funeral Home, 1185 Route 35 N., East Dubuque, is in charge of arrangements.
She was born on Feb. 5, 1926, in Dubuque, daughter of Charles and Luella (Lenstra) Klaas.
She married Kenneth Ahmann on June 16, 1945; he preceded her in death on Sept. 24, 1963. She later married Raymond Short on June 1, 1967; he preceded her in death on April 10, 1994.
She was formerly employed at General Dry Battery Factory, United Auto Workers and Montgomery Ward. She also volunteered at the American Cancer Society Discovery Shop.
She was a member of the Center Grove United Methodist Church, Fraternal Order of Eagles Ladies Auxiliary, Eagles REAC Club, and an associate member of the United Auto Workers.
She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, enjoyed playing euchre and fishing.
Surviving are two daughters, Betty (Loras) Schrobilgen, of Davenport, Iowa, and Carol (Gary) Knockel, of East Dubuque; two sons, Terry (Carol) Ahmann, of Fridley, Minn., and Rick Ahmann, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two stepdaughters, Candy (Oscar) Holdridge, of Delhi, Iowa, and Connie Shaw, of Grand Junction, Colo.; eight grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 14 step-great-grandchildren; and three step-great-great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Lucille Klaas; sisters, Rosella Schmitt and Mary Jane Klaas; and brothers, Elroy, Charles, Donald and Robert Klaas.
