Deceased Name: PHILIP BADGER

Chapel services for Philip Badger, 72, who resided with his daughter, Mrs. David (Susie) Starr, of Brighton, Mich., formerly of 10246 Lake Eleanor Road, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St.

Burial will be in Center Grove Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 6 of Dubuque. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Badger retired from the Dubuque Fire Department where he served as captain and assistant chief.

He was born on Oct. 5, 1923, in Dubuque, son of Peter and Nellie (Olson) Badger. He died at 10:42 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, 1996, at St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital, Ann Arbor, Mich.

He married Marie Addyman on May 8, 1951, at Summit Congregational Church, Dubuque.

He was a World War II Marine veteran serving in the Pacific Arena and the Korean conflict. He was decorated several times for his service record and received the Purple Heart. He had reached the rank of Marine Sergeant.

He was a past president of the Fire Fighters Local 353. He was a member of the Dubuque Boat Club, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion Post 6, and the Dubuque Men's Association. He was an avid sportsman, card player and dancer.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. David (Susie) Starr, of Brighton, and Rebecca Badger, of Dubuque; a granddaughter, Zoe Badger; a grandson, David (Kristen) Starr; two sisters, Janaan Hanten, of Dubuque, and Mae Lippe, of Detroit, Mich.; and a brother, Carl Badger, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Badger, on Aug. 12, 1986; four sisters, Frances "Sis" Faber, Lenore Badger, Ruth Yadlosky and Kay Eldridge; and two brothers, Robert and Vincent "Butch" Badger.
