RICKARDSVILLE, Iowa -- Eleanor "Sis" Bennett, 86, of 20278 Highway 52 North, Rickardsville, died Wednesday, June 27, 2007, at home.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Hoffmann-
Schneider and Kitchen Funeral Home, where friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Center Grove Cemetery.

She was born on July 30, 1920, in Dubuque County, daughter of Charles and Hazel Winders. She married Carl Drost in 1941.

She later married Douglas Bennett in 1952.

She worked at many restaurants in Dubuque, including Poor Man's Catering and the Avalon Supper Club, in Rickardsville, and Harry's, in Holy Cross, as a waitress, bartender, and Jane-of-many-trades into her 80s.

She was a spirited euchre player, known for giving advice to less-experienced players. She liked to be on the go, and her independent streak was legendary.

She remembered everyone she ever met and loved to meet new people; never being shy, she often walked up to people to find out who they were. No one ever forgot Sis once they met her. She will always be a part of the many lives she touched.

Surviving are her sons, Thomas (Sandra) Drost, of San Bernardino, Calif., Warren (Michele Potter) Bennett, of Rickardsville; grandchildren, Danny Drost, of San Bernardino, Victoria Drost, of Loma Linda, Calif., John Bennett, of Zwingle, and Jill Bennett, of Palm Bay, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Daniel Drost, Jr., Candace Drost, Jacob Drost, of Fontana, Calif., Stanley Zedalis, of San Bernardino, Amber Zedalis, of Redlands, Calif., Duane Drost Jr., of Casper, Wyo.; two great-great-grandsons Joshua Zedalis, of Yucaipa, Calif., and Jacob Corona, of Fontana; and a sister, Gertie (Dick) Oberbroeckling, of rural Dubuque;

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a brother, Robert Winders; a sister, Jane Ryan; and a grandson, Duane Drost.
