Deceased Name: John H. Bell

DYERSVILLE, Iowa - John H. Bell, 90, of Dyersville, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010, at Oak Crest Manor, Dyersville.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with the Rev. Dennis Quint officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 137. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 4, at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a parish scripture service at 4 p.m. and an American Legion service at 7 p.m.

He was born on Jan. 26, 1920, in Dyersville, son of Clarence and Olive (Schnier) Bell.

John served in the Army from 1941 to 1946, during World War II, serving in New Guinea for much of that time.

He married Marian Anstoetter on June 22, 1946, in Farley. Together they farmed west of Dyersville until retiring in 1984, when they moved to Dyersville.

He occupied his time and talent on several community and civic organizations such as American Legion Post 137, Dyersville Farmers' Community Fire Department Board of Directors, Xavier School Board, Keystone AEA Board of Directors, Dyersville Golf and Country Club, the Dyersville Lions Club and the Dyersville City Council.

John enjoyed playing golf, watching and discussing sports, and a good poker game.

Surviving are his wife, Marian; children, Ann Millenkamp, of Dyersville, Donna (Peter) Motta, of Cortlandt Manor, N.Y., Larry (Karen) Bell, of Dyersville, Kathy (Mick) Coleman, of Burnsville, Minn., Jan Craiker, of Springfield, Va., and Jeff (Liz) Bell, of Falls Church, Va.; 19 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; siblings, Jim (Helen) Bell, of Dyersville, Edith Kedley, of Dubuque, Tom (Jeanette) Bell, of Dyersville, and Kay (Vern) Gansemer, of Sussex, Wis.; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Don (Laura) Willenbring, of Farley, Arlene Bell, of Dyersville, Betty Bell, of East Dubuque, Ill., Charlie (Dori) Anstoetter, of Dubuque, Esther (Fran) Joyce, of Rapid City, S.D., Jerry (Moni) Anstoetter, of Farley, John (Joan) Anstoetter, of Dubuque, Millie Koehler, of Decatur, Ill., Janaan (Ken) Krapfl and Shirley (Clete) Maiers, both of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three siblings, Rose Mary Willenbring, Herb Bell and Louie Bell; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Orland Kedley, Sr. Marirose Anstoetter, RSM, Alice (Gene) Wieser, Ken Koehler, Bernie Anstoetter and Don Anstoetter.
