Alphonse J. Kelchen, 82, of Worthington, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1998 at Shady Rest Care Center, Cascade.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul Catholic Church, Worthington, with burial in the church cemetery. (omitted rest of this paragraph)

Mr. Kelchen farmed with his wife in the Hopkinton area, retiring in January of 1976.

He was born on Jan. 13, 1916, in Hopkinton, son of Peter and Elizabeth (Heims) Kelchen. He married Germaine E. Recker on Oct. 2, 1945, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Dyersville.

Surviving are his wife, Germaine; three sons, Ron "Mickey" of Hopkinton, Ken (Linda), of Dyersville, and Dan "Duke" (Vickie) of Cascade; four daughters, Mary (David) Benke, of Cascade, Joan (Rod) Meyer, of Worthington, Bev (Bill) Hentges, of Batavia, Ill., and Deb (Al) Brunsmann, of Dyersville; 24 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; four sisters, Louise (Ed) Vaske and Erma Koppes, both of Cascade, Marie (Ray) Kronlage, of Farley, and Mildred Foxen, of Earlville; and a sister-in-law, Florence Kelchen of Manchester.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jane Blank, in 1978; his parents; two brothers, Paul and Lawrence Kelchen; and three sisters, Rose Heying, Veronica Polfer and Katherine Kelchen.
