The Telegraph-Herald, February 5, 1940, Monday

Mrs. Louis Arthofer

Mrs. Louise Arthofer, 69, died suddenly Sunday evening at 9 o'clock at her home, 2311 1-2 Windsor Avenue.

The body is at the Strueber Funeral Home from where the funeral will be held Thursday Morning to the Sacred Heart Church, where a mass of requiem will be offered at 9 o'clock. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Mrs. Arthofer was born Feb. 29, 1879 at Vienna, Austria. She came to this country 51 years ago and had lived in Dubuque since that time. She was married to Frank Arthofer, who died in 1926.

Surviving are her sons, Leo, Frank, Peter, Emil, George and Fred Arthofer, all of Dubuque; her daughters, Mrs. A. P. (Marie) Simones, Grant County, Wis., Mrs. Louise Rubino, Jersey City, J. J., and Mrs. B. (Marcella) Mardauss, Dubuque; her sisters Mrs. Justice Wagner, and Mrs. Sedona Lidscher, both of Jersey City, N. J.; her brother, Joseph Taus, Vienna, Austria; and 11 grandchildren.

Note: Checking a calendar, there was no 29 Feb in the year 1879, so the last day in Feb would have been 28 Feb if she was born the last day of February. Also, the Iowa Gravestone Photo project has her husband's year of death as 1928, not 1926.
