Cascade, Iowa

Rev. Nicholas M. Cigrand, 50, pastor of Immaculate Conception Church at Lansing, Iowa and formerly of Cascade, died at 9 p.m. Tuesday at St. Francis Hospital in La Crosse, Wis.

Father Cigrand will lie in state after 5 p.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Church in Lansing, where the Rosary will be said at 8 p.m. Wednesday. The funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the church. The body will then be transferred to St. Mary's Church in Cascade, where it will lie in state after 3 p.m. Thursday. The Rosary will be said at St. Mary's at 8 p.m. Thursday.

A Concelebrated Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Church. Burial will be St. Mary's Cemetery.

Father Cigrand, who was born in Cascade (8 Apr 1925), was a graduate of Loras College and studied for the priesthood at Mount St. Bernard Seminary. He was ordained Feb. 5, 1955 at Christ the King Chapel at Loras College by Archbishop Leo Binz.

Father Cigrand served at St. Luke's parish at St. Lucas, Visitation Church at Stacyville, St. Mary's at Guttenberg, St. Joseph's at Cresco, St. Patrick's at Ryan and St. Mary's in Dubuque before being assigned to Immaculate Conception in Lansing last July.

Surviving are seven sisters, Mr. Herbert (Mildred) Otting, Mrs. Francis (Mary Margaret) Menster, Marian Cigrand, Mrs. Joseph (Lavern) Grogan, Jean Ann Cigrand and Mrs. Bernard (Lula Mae) Klein, all of Cascade, and Rita Cigrand of Dubuque, and three brothers, Arnold and Carl, both of Cascade, and Richard of Monticello, Iowa.

The Till-Didesch Funeral Home of Cascade is in charge of arrangements.
