Crash Here Kills Mother of 10

Mrs. Glen Gibbs, of Farley, IA, the mother of ten chilsdren, was killed instantly late Wednesday afternoon when a semi-trailer truck and her car collided just west of Dubuque on Highway 20.

The driver of the truck, James Trask, 50, of Mason City, IA, is reported in good condition at Mercy Medical Center, with cuts and bruises. Mrs. Gibbs' 11-year-old daughter, Julie, a passenger in the car, is also reported in good condition at Mercy with bruises.

Another daughter, Jane, 10, the third passenger in the car, was treated at Mercy and released Wednesday night.

The Gibbs auto stopped at the stop sign on Kennedy Road, then turned west onto the highway when the west-bound truck struck it, investigating officers said. All three passengers were thrown from the car onto the highway, before the vehicle came to rest in a ditch about 30 feet from the point of impact.

The truck continued for about 150 feet west and jackknifed across the median of the four-lane road, officers said.

The victim's husband has been Farley town marshal for about four years. Mrs. Gibbs was employed at the Ertl Toy Factory in Dyersville, IA.

Mrs. Gibbs had been shopping in Dubuque and was starting the return trip to Farley.

Iowa Highway Patrolman Lyle Peters investigated the accident, with the aid of Dubuque County Sheriff's officials.
