Betty G. Nicks, age 84, of Dubuque, Iowa, formerly of Altura Dr. passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 26, 2013.

Private family services will be held at Behr Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Complete arrangements are pending at Behr Funeral Home.

Betty was born on May 27, 1929, in Dubuque, Iowa, daughter of Frank and Esther (Protz) Kohl.

Betty attended school at Jefferson Junior High School and graduated from Dubuque Senior High School, Class of 1947. She worked in the catalog department at Montgomery Wards starting at age 18.

Betty married John Nicks on September 9, 1950, at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church. They were married for 63 years. She was an active member of St Mary's Parish until it closed and was most recently a member of St. Anthony's Parish. Betty and John enjoyed traveling to the southwest in the winter and going to shows in Branson, MO. Her greatest joy was spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

her 8 grandchildren,
Jason (Angie) Jones, Marion, IA,
Jennie (Nick) Schwartz, Dubuque, IA,
Scott (Kelli) Nicks, Dubuque, IA,
Nicole (Sam) Rowan, Leesburg, VA,
Amber (Matt) Wenzel, Dubuque, IA,
Ryan (Amber) Nicks, Dubuque, IA,
Brandie (B.J.) Knockel, LaMotte, IA,
Sara (fiancé Andy Daggett) Nicks, Rock Island, IL,

and 11 great-grandchildren and 3 more on the way,

her very special niece,
Peg (Denny) Manahl, Cedar Falls, IA.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Dianne (Steve) Behr and her brother Frank Kohl Jr.

The family would like to extend a special thank to Dr. Whalen, Dr. Nelson and to Hospice of Dubuque for all of the loving care they provided to Betty.

A Betty G. Nicks memorial fund has been established.
