Marion E. Schmitt

Marion E. Schmitt, 77, of Stonehill Care Center, formerly of 6550 Asbury road, died at 8:15 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, 1998, at Stonehill.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Columkille's Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Ed Siegert-Al Didesch Colonial Funeral Home, 290 N. Grandview Ave., where there will be a parish wake service at 4:30 p.m.

Mrs. Schmitt worked at the General Dry Battery Factory and farmed in the Asbury area until her retirement in 1985.

She was born on Dec. 19, 1920, in Rickardsville, Iowa, daughter of John and Anna (Schadler) Breitbach. She married Melvin Jacob Schmitt on Jan. 29, 1947, he died on Feb. 26, 1985.

Surviving are a daughter, Mary Lou Thornburg, of Wayland, Iowa; two sons, Dan (Ann) Schmitt, of Traer, Iowa and Dennis (Karen) Schmitt, of Key West, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Terry Timmons and Julie Thill, both of Independence, Iowa, Jenny Timmons, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Kyle Pusteoska, Jacob Schmitt and Bailey Schmitt, all of Traer, Iowa, Kristy Schmitt, Andy Schmitt and Valerie Schmitt, all of Key West; two great-grandchildren, Rylan Timmons and Tristan Timmons, both of Independence; and a brother, Francis Breitbach, of Dubuque.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Irvin, Barney and Edward.
