Duane R. Peterson

Duane R. Peterson, 69, of 1003 Althauser Ave., Dubuque, formerly of Epworth, Iowa, died at 10:40 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003, at Stonehill Care Center, Dubuque, from complications with Alzheimer's Disease.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Reiff Funeral Home, Epworth, with the Rev. Terri Elder officiating. Burial will be in Highview Cemetery, Epworth. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Reiff Funeral Home, Epworth.

Mr. Peterson was a truck driver for Standard Forwarding Co., Inc. He also was a singer/guitarist in many area bands, a private pilot and an auto mechanic.

He was born on Oct. 14, 1934, in Westby, Wis., son of Delia Peterson and Glen Harlan.

He received his education in the Trempealeau, Wis., area schools.

Duane loved fishing and was a motorcycle enthusiast.

Surviving are a special friend, Barbara Klangboch, of Dubuque; a son, Gary (Lili) Peterson, of Dubuque; a daughter, Carla Olivarez, of Asbury, Iowa; five grandchildren, Wes Peterson, Tessa Peterson, Abby Peterson, Ellie Peterson and Ricci Olivarez; his stepfather, Glen Harlan, of Belton, Mo.; a brother, Mike (Dianna) Harlan, of Independence, Mo.; and five sisters, Gloria (Keith) Shearer, of Dubuque, Lois Patterson and Glenda (Ulysses) Mattis, both of Fort Walton, Fla., Nancy Harlan, of Arden, N.C., and Bernice Nash, of Viroqua, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his mother; and a son, Jerry Peterson, in 1953.

A Duane R. Peterson Memorial Fund has been established.

The family of Duane would like to thank the staff at Summit Care Center and the Stonehill third floor nursing staff for all the kindness and care given to Duane.
