Mildred S. Hurley

Mildred S. (Haley) Hurley, 96, of Bethany Home, formerly of 453 West 4th St., died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003, at Bethany Home.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Raphael's Cathedral, where friends may call after noon Saturday. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, Iowa. The Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, is in charge of arrangements.

She was born on Nov. 19, 1907, in Dubuque County, daughter of John W. and Annabelle (Clark) Haley. She married Ford Hurley on Sept. 19, 1946; he died on April 22, 1991.

She went to work at a very young age to help support her younger brothers and sisters. She worked at Glovers for 23 years. She then worked at J.C. Penney for 27 years, until her retirement in 1972.

She was a longtime resident of the Fourth Street neighborhood and a member of St. Raphael's Cathedral.

Surviving are twin sisters Irene Kamps and Ilene Lammer, both of Dubuque; a sister-in-law, Bernice Hurley, of Jefferson, Iowa; five nieces; and 11 nephews.

She also was preceded in death by three brothers, Michael, Hugh and John; and three sisters, Mary Haley, Veronica Winter and Ann Hoppmann.

Memorials may be given to Bethany Home.

The family would like to thank Bethany Home for the wonderful place they provided for Millie to live the last three years and Dr. William Dall for all the good care he provided for Millie.
