John L. "Jack" Wenzel, 81, of ManorCare Health Services, died at 2:55 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at ManorCare.

Committal services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Regina Caeli Chapel at Mount Calvary Cemetery, with the Rev. Monsignor William Leonard officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion, Dubuque Post 6. Friends may call from 9 to 10:15 a.m. Wednesday at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road.

He was born on Dec. 18, 1921, in Dubuque, son of Fred and Magdaline (Heinz) Wenzel.

He served in the Army during World War II and in the Korean War. He returned to Dubuque, and was a bus driver for the family business, River Trails Transit Line, for many years.

Jack was a member of the American Legion, Dubuque Post 6.

Surviving are a brother, Robert (Lorraine) Wenzel, of Phoenix, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews, including Barb Schroeder, Jules Wenzel, Mike Sand and Tom Mitchley, all of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers and sisters.

A special thank-you to Tammy and the nurses and staff of ManorCare for the care they gave to Jack these last seven years.
