Rosemary J. Petsch, 89, of 2108 Shiras Ave., died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at home, following a brief illness.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main St., where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m.

She was born on Sept. 15, 1914, in Dubuque, daughter of Ernest and Maxalinda (Kleinschmidt) Jogerst. She married Harold W. Petsch on June 25, 1938, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Madison, Wis.; he preceded her in death on March 7, 1999.

She attended the former St. Mary's Grade School and graduated from the former Immaculate Conception High School, both in Dubuque. She also attended Clarke College, Dubuque.

She volunteered at the Mathias Ham House Museum as a tour guide and at the former Xavier Hospital gift shop for many years.

She was a member of Holy Trinity Parish, Dubuque. She was a prayerful person, devoted to her Catholic faith and her family.

Rosemary's children will remember their mother as a loving, steadfast matriarch with a love for reading and an amazing ability to juggle the needs of her husband and six growing boys.

Rosemary was always willing to place the needs of others before her own. Her loving, caring generosity was felt by her daughters-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her entire extended family.

A special joy was brought to her life by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are six sons, Mark P. (Patricia) Petsch, of Clinton, Iowa, David J. Petsch, of McGregor, Iowa, Stephen C. Petsch and Joel J. (Candi) Petsch, both of Asbury, Iowa, Daniel L. Petsch, of Dubuque, and Dr. Philip F. (Dr. Rhonda) Petsch, of Montague, Mich.; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ernest F. (Marie) Jogerst, of Dubuque.

She also was preceded in death by two sisters, Jannan Ball and Mary Maxine Dougherty; an infant brother, John E. Jogerst; and a daughter-in-law, Mary Kay Petsch.

Memorials may be given to Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

The family wishes to extend a special appreciation to her sons, Daniel and Joel, and Joel's wife, Candi, who went above and beyond as Rosemary's primary caregivers, granting her an extended quality of life.
