Gage Vincent Peil

Telegraph Herald - Dec 14, 2003

Gage Vincent Peil, 10-year-old son of Kim A. Pothoff-Peil, of 10956 Whitetop Road, and George F. Peil, Jr., died at 1:05 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, at home, following a courageous battle with a brain tumor.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Ghost Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Balltown, Iowa. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where there will be a parish wake service at 3 p.m.

He was born on April 9, 1993, in Dubuque, son of George F., Jr. and Kim A. (Pothoff) Peil. He was a student at Holy Ghost School in Dubuque.

Gage was an avid fisherman and loved all his pets. He also loved spending time with his sister and friends.

He was always concerned with others and their well-being. With that thought in mind, his tumor has been donated for research in hopes of finding a cure for other children.

Surviving are his mother, Kim A. Pothoff-Peil; his father, George F. Peil, Jr., of Dubuque; a sister, Emily A. Peil, at home; maternal grandparents, Harlan and Jeanette Pothoff, of Balltown; paternal grandparents, George, Sr. and Diane Peil, of Dubuque; maternal great-grandmother, Martha Brimeyer, of Dubuque; paternal great-grandparents, John and Clara McLaughlin, of Dubuque; aunts and uncles, Wayne and Tina Pothoff, Harley and Sherry Pothoff, Paul and Jolene Peil, Jason Peil and Todd Peil; and a good family friend, Barb Decker.

A Gage V. Peil Memorial Fund has been established.

The family would like to thank Barb Decker, Kelly McMahon, Renee Frith, Yvette Saeugling, Mary Smock, Joe Maloney, Hospice of Dubuque, Dr. John Hartman and staff, the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, the Children's Miracle Network, Tim, Teri, Marsha and everyone who supported us with thoughts and prayers through this battle, especially the staff and students of Holy Ghost School.
