Sister Irene Carlin, OSF, 89, of Holy Family Hall, died at 7:10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, at the Holy Family Hall Infirmary.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Mount St. Francis Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the chapel, where there will be a wake service at 7:30 p.m. The Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., is in charge of arrangements.

Sister Irene ministered in the Iowa schools of Ossian, Holy Cross, Charter Oak, North Buena Vista, Otter Creek, North Washington, Alta Vista, Templeton, Alton, Petersburg, New Vienna, Arcadia, Earlville, Early and St. Anthony Home.

She was born on Nov. 12, 1914, in Lawler, Iowa, daughter of Michael and Elizabeth (McCroden) Carlin.

She entered the Sisters of St. Francis on Sept. 6, 1935. She made her final profession of vows on Aug. 10, 1941.

Surviving are a sister-in-law, Anna Beth Carlin; and the Franciscan Sisters, with whom she shared 67 years of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Elizabeth Carlin; and two brothers, Leonard (Betty) and John.

Memorials may be given to the Sisters of St. Francis, Dubuque.
