Peter T. Nacos, 89, of San Francisco, formerly of Dubuque, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at Knobb Hill Nursing Center, San Francisco.

Services will be at 5 p.m. Friday at Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main St., Dubuque, where friends may call after 3 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka, Ind.

He was born on July 30, 1914, in Galena, Ill., son of Theodore and Vasisilo (Petrakis) Nacos. He married Marion Hartsall; she preceded him in death on Oct. 24, 1978.

He was raised in Dubuque, and was a leading boxer in the 1930s.

He was a member of the Merchant Marines during World War II. After the war, he worked as a waiter at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco, prior to retiring.

He was an amateur photographer and took many pictures of family and the Elks Club. He was an Elk and loved spending time with his Elk brothers. They were a second family to him.

Peter will be especially missed by all his nieces and nephews who dearly loved him. His favorite expression at the end of every conversation and phone call was, "It's a beautiful day." We will miss him.

Surviving are three brothers, George (Mary) Nacos, of Dubuque, Thomas (Roberta) Nacos, of Las Vegas, and Theodore (Diane) Nacos, of Davenport, Iowa; and nieces and nephews.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Angeline Luchsinger and Euphonia "Cookie" Peacock.

Memorials may be given to First Presbyterian Church, Dubuque.
