Catherine WILLIAMS HOOK died Dec. 8, 2003, Earlville, Iowa

Catherine WILLIAMS HOOK, age 84, born April 19, 1919 in Dubuque, Iowa, died in Earlville, Delaware Co., Iowa, Dec. 8, 2003. A wake is to be held in Earlville at her church, the United Methodist Church on Friday, Dec. 12 from 4 till 8 p.m. The funeral will be at 10:30 on Sat. Dec. 13 at the Clifton Funeral Home across the street from the church.

Catherine was predeceased by her husband Herbert HOOK, who died in Earlville in August, 1998. She is survived by two daughters, Judy Hook Mast and Delores Hook Chapman, both of Manchester, Iowa; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother Donald Robert Williams, a WW II veteran, age 87, who lives in Des Moines, Iowa; and a sister, Barbara Williams, who lives in Dubuque, Iowa.

Catherine was born to Joseph Henry Williams and Ivy Laura Skemp in Dubuque, Iowa. Her father was born Heinrich Joseph Willms, Jan. 30, 1883, Blankenheim, Germany in the Eifel region of the Rhineland. He immigrated with his parents Johann Joseph Willms and Helena Anna Magdalena Pauly Willms on the ship SS Gellert, which arrived in New York May 1, 1883. The family settled in Glen Haven, Grant County, Wisconsin until 1898 when they moved to Guttenberg, Clayton, Iowa.

Her siblings, all born in Dubuque, were: Arthur Joseph Williams, b Sept. 10, 1914--d Mar. 7, 1989; Donald R. Williams, b Nov. 29, 1916; Walter Williams, b 1921-d about 1930; Jeanette Louise Williams Johannsen, b March 26, 1924, d May 23, 1999 in Henderson, NV; Barbara born about 1928----

--- and a sister missing since the 1940s--Dorothy WILLIAMS RODY/ ROHDE ? TOPEL (not sure). The family has been trying to locate Dorothy for many years. She was last seen at Catherine's wedding in 1940 and again in the 1940s and had at least two children. Dorothy lived for a while with Susie HOOK TOOMER as an infant, when the Williams family fell on hard times and broke up and the children were sent to live with family, friends or an orphanage. Catherine lived until the age of 18 at an orphanage in Davenport, Iowa.

Catherine Williams Hook was active in her church in Earlville and wishes to remembered by her friends and family with a memorial gift to the United Methodist Church in Earlville, Iowa.
