Sister Mary Melitta Fitzgibbons, BVM

Sister Mary Melitta Fitzgibbons, BVM, 85, of Marian Hall, 1050 Carmel Drive, died at 2:52 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at Marian Hall.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Marian Hall Chapel. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel, where there will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. The Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Sister Mary Melitta was an elementary school teacher in Chicago; Wichita, Kan.; Milwaukee; Kansas City, Mo.; Phoenix, Ariz.; Chattanooga, Tenn.; and Cedar Rapids, Dubuque and Peosta, Iowa.

She was born on Nov. 26, 1918, in Dubuque, daughter of Philip and Anna (McKeown) Fitzgibbons.

She made her first profession of religious vows on March 19, 1940, and her final profession on Aug. 15, 1945.

Surviving are a sister, Sister Mary Philip Fitzgibbons, BVM, of Dubuque; a brother, Paul Fitzgibbons, of Englewood, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Madonna Fitzgibbons, of Dubuque; nieces and nephews; and the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary with whom she shared life for 66 years.

Memorials may be given to the Sisters of Charity, BVM, Retirement Fund.
