Leona M. Pfiffner, 82, of Dubuque, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, Dec. 3, 2003, at home, surrounded by her close friends and neighbors.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Ardel Barta officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main St., where there will be a wake service at 3:30 p.m.

She was a senior buyer for the former Roshek Brothers Department Store for 48 years. Later, she also had a similar position at the former Armstrongs Department Store.

She was born on Aug. 1, 1921, in Dubuque, daughter of Fred A. and Mary (Steichen) Pfiffner.

She attended St. Mary's grade school and graduated from the former St. Joseph Academy. She also attended Clarke College.

She was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Parish and its Rosary Society. She also was a member of Dubuqueland Women's Bowling Association, Women's International Bowling Association and Roshek's Retirees Organization.

Leona enjoyed bowling and socializing with her many friends. She also enjoyed spending time with her beloved pet, Skippy. She delighted in assisting Jill Rokusek with her hat shows and traveling in Iowa, Wisconsin and Illinois.

Surviving are her close friends and loving neighbors, Rev. John Hussmann, of Dubuque, Mary Walsh and Georgia Kuna, both of Arizona, and Jane (John) Walsh, of Chicago; and her caregivers, John and Jill Rokusek, Jane Schroeder, Al and Marion Wittine, Ron and Julie Schlader and Greg and Dawn Swift, all of Dubuque.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Ruth Pfiffner.

We wish to thank Dr. Greg Paulsen, Dr. Lawrence Kukla, Dr. Mark D. Moglowsky, Sue Bushman and Connie Bellevar for their care and concern. Also, thanks to Hospice of Dubuque and Home Instead Senior Care for their kind help.
